The eastbound lanes of Interstate 94 through downtown Minneapolis will be closed overnight this week.
The nightly closure, which also includes the Eastbound Lowry Tunnel lanes, began Tuesday night and will last until Friday May 4th.
Motorists will be diverted from Interstate 394 west to Highway 100 south and Highway 62 east to Interstate 35W north.
This closure is part of the Minnesota Department of Transportation’s year-long I-35W reconstruction project, which aims to reduce congestion and increase traffic mobility.
Work on the $ 239 million project began in the summer of 2017 and is expected to be completed this fall.
The project involves MnDOT working on a 2.5 mile stretch of the freeway between 43rd and 15th Streets in Minneapolis. The emergency services are paving new concrete, rebuilding eleven bridges and repairing four more on the roadway that is over 50 years old. MnDOT is also adding new ramps and MnPASS lanes and building new pedestrian bridges.
