Boy pulled from pool in north Minneapolis has died

A young child who was unresponsive in a pool in northern Minneapolis has died.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office confirmed the 12-year-old boy died Tuesday morning. His identity was not made public.

At around 5 p.m. on Friday, the boy was spotted at the bottom of a pool – in North Commons Water Park in northern Minneapolis – by a witness who ran to a nearby store and called 911.

The Hennepin County Sheriff’s Office said a Minneapolis Park police officer responded, jumped into the pool and pulled the boy out of the water. A second officer performed CPR on the child until the paramedics arrived and took the child to Hennepin County Medical Center.

The sheriff’s office says the boy “apparently climbed over a fence around the pool and got into the water.” The gate was locked at the time because the water park was not yet open for the season.

There have been a number of drowning deaths in Minnesota over the past week, including a 9-year-old boy in North Mankato and a 26-year-old father trying to help children back on shore in Fridley.
